When can I switch from puppy dry dog food to adult dry dog food?

The timing of the change from puppy dry dog food to adult dry dog food depends (among other things) on the expected size and breed of your dog. Small breeds (such as Dachshunds and Pugs) can be given puppy dry dog food up to 12 months of age. Medium-sized dogs (e.g. Australian Shepherds, Border Collies) can usually switch to adult food after they have finished teething (approx. 6 months of age), while large breeds (e.g. Bernese Mountain Dogs, Rhodesian Ridgebacks) can be fed adult dry dog food from the age of 4 months. Due to the nutrient composition, we recommend switching to Adult Chicken (Mini) to ensure an optimal supply. If an earlier changeover to an adult food is made, we recommend following the feeding recommendations for puppies until they are 12 months old in order to ensure an adequate supply of nutrients with optimum (and not maximum) growth rates. Why do you not offer different foods for different dog breeds?

Every dog is descended from the wolf, and the digestive tract is designed for the consumption of meat. Our dry food and wet food are designed to be easily consumed by all dogs - from Chihuahuas to Great Danes - and meet the needs of all breeds equally. Different sizes of dry food and wet food make it easier to portion out the food. The recipe and composition remain identical in all sizes to ensure consistent quality and optimum nutrition.

Can I give my dog wet food and dry food on the same day?

If you want to offer your dog some variety, you can easily switch between all PLATINUM foods. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, please contact our veterinary department for advice on feeding. It does not matter whether you give wet food in the morning and dry food in the evening, or vice versa. A combination of wet and dry food in one meal is also possible, as both forms of feeding have the same digestibility with PLATINUM.

Is a (too) high protein content harmful for my cat?

A cat's metabolism is designed to obtain energy from protein. As a carnivore, cats are dependent on a high protein content and can metabolise it very well. Therefore, a high protein content is not harmful at all for your cat.

How many times a day should I feed my cat?

Several small meals a day are best for cats. However, you should decide on an individual basis how many meals your cat needs per day according to its eating habits. You should never offer more than one daily ration per day. For cats that divide their portion themselves, it is possible to refill the daily ration once a day. However, cats that always eat their portions directly should be given several smaller meals per day. Feeding from automatic feeders is also possible and MeatCrisp is ideal for this.

Are cats pure carnivores?

Cats are obligate carnivores, i.e. meat eaters. They need meat and animal proteins for a complete supply of nutrients. However, cats also consume some of the prey's organs, which means that they also eat other food components (grasses, herbs, cereals, vegetables and fruit) that are beneficial for digestion.

How do I transition puppies after the suckling period?

Our Menu Puppy Chicken wet feed is very well suited to start feeding puppies after the suckling period. Blending a small portion of the MENU Puppy Chicken wet feed with some lukewarm water and then offering the puppies the resulting puree as a „first meal“ has proven successful. In the following days, you can gradually add more crumbled puppy dry feed to let the puree meal slowly peter out. Our Puppy dry feed is very easy to crush thanks to a residual moisture content of 19% and the puppies are quite keen on the resulting small pieces.
