Dry food prepared with Fleischsaftgarung

Our dry food is prepared with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung). FSG is a method of preparing fresh meat. It comes from the kitchen rather than the feed industry. It was modelled on techniques that top chefs often use to make meat tastier and also healthier.

With FSG (Fleischsaftgarung), fresh meat is cooked in a vacuum at a low temperature. No water or broth is added, the meat cooks alone in its own meat juice, a nutrient-rich liquid that contains protein, creatine and iron. Our dry food has nothing in common with dried food, as it contains a residual moisture from the concentrated meat juice, making it chewable and soft. Dry food prepared with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) also does not swell and does not contain meat meal.
With FSG (Fleischsaftgarung), the meat is cooked under vacuum and all the natural flavours of the meat, its vitamins and nutrients are completely preserved. The low temperature during FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) also preserves the beneficial properties of the vitamins and nutrients. Therefore, dog food prepared with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) is much tastier and healthier.

The FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) creates the important properties of our dry food that are so appreciated by dog lovers.

FSG dry food is a delight for your dog and comes completely without attractants, flavourings, colourings, odours and flavour enhancers. The reasons for this are:
  • The vacuum: The meat cooks under vacuum. So nothing is lost, not even natural flavours, as it is the case with boiling.
  • The reduction: We use a special technique that allows us to slowly reduce the moisture in a vacuum. Slow reduction is also known from the kitchen as gentle boiling down. Reducing the moisture of the meat juice intensifies the natural meat flavour.
FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) makes our dry food as nutrient-rich as BARF diet. The reasons are:
  • The vacuum: All the natural vitamins and nutrients of the meat are completely preserved.
  • The low temperature: Due to the low temperature, during FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) the vitamins and nutrients are preserved.
Meat is vital for building muscle, because it has a high protein content. The biological value of meat proteins is much higher for dogs than for humans, because the dog's digestive system has hardly changed. It can obtain energy for muscle building from meat much better than from any other food. Proteins denatured with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) are easier to digest than raw meat. Ideal to help build muscle, making dogs feel light and powerful.
FSG meat is digested better and utilised more effectively by dogs, than any other food:
  • The dog's digestive system has hardly changed during domestication. Meat is still the most important source of nutrition. Proteins denatured with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) are digested better than raw meat.
  • The faeces resulting from FSG dog food are correspondingly small, dimensionally stable and have no obtrusive aroma. The consistency of the faeces makes it easier for your dog to pass it (once or twice a day).
The FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) ensures that our dry food does not swell up in the stomach. This means there is no food belly after the meal, as it is often the case with conventional dry food. This improves your dog's quality of life in many ways:
  • No tummy bloat due to swelling
  • Reduces the risk of gastric torsion
  • Shortened food rest because your dog feels less dull and tired after the meal
  • No food soaking, which leads to an unappetising mush
During the long cooking time in the meat juices, we slowly reduce the moisture. Reducing is a proven cooking technique. It brings out the natural flavours and causes a binding (thickening) that makes our dry food chewy-soft. Dry food prepared with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) become chewy-soft solely through the meat juice of the fresh meat.
Fleischsaftgarung (FSG) prepares dog food in the same way as high-quality human food is made. At first glance, this may sound a bit excessive to some dog owners. But it’s not, since the dog is (wo)man’s best friend. The dog left the forest to spend its life with humans some 15,000 years ago. Today, the dog shares our habitat and feels like a real member of the family. Consequently, dogs should not feel worse off in any area of life than the other members of the family. We therefore do not call food cooked with Fleischsaftgarung ‘dog food’. After all, a real family member or best friend does not receive feed.

In a world full of advertising promises, it is hard to tell the good from the bad. That is why we have commissioned TÜV Süd Elab (now ELAB Analytik GmbH) to test our dog food regularly and independently. What is tested:

  • Our fresh meat content: testing of recipe compliance at the preparation site.
  • For harmful substances, to protect the health of your best friend.
  • Our declaration

Fresh meat for your dog without raw feeding

Even a quick glance at a dog's dentition shows unmistakably: it is made for meat. Canine teeth and carnassial teeth are not found in a herbivore. As the dog’s intestine is short it is optimised for the absorption of nutrients from meat – It is shorter than it is in humans and also significantly shorter than the intestine of a pure herbivore.

Therefore, the structure of the dog’s body leaves no doubt that physical well-being and lasting health can be achieved with meat as the main component of the diet. For this reason, PLATINUM's focus has always been fresh meat. When we talk about meat we are talking about fresh meat and not about meat meal and animal by-products.

Meat meal is produced when the nutrient-rich meat juice and the natural fat content are extracted from the fresh meat, applying high temperatures and high pressure. Meat meal is not tasty, and it is significantly less nutritious than fresh meat. That is why there is no meat meal roast on the table on Sundays and no meat meal in our dog food.

Dog food prepared with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) is no ordinary dog food

Meat becomes more digestible by heating. Scientists of Harvard University have found out that proteins, denatured by heat, can be digested faster than raw meat. This is valid for humans as for animals. Furthermore, heating the meat, kills any pathogens (germs and bacteria) that may be present, which spares the body an energy consuming defence against infection.

That is why we use fresh meat to prepare our food. The method of preparing is called FSG (Fleischsaftgarung). In this process, fresh meat is cooked only in its own meat juice, as in the kitchen. We are not talking about everyday kitchen, but gourmet cuisine, where chefs use special cooking methods to prepare meat tastier and also healthier, thanks to the meat juice. FSG combines a selection of these cooking methods to prepare a delicious and nutritious meal. Adapted to the nutritional needs of the dog, our quality food is a big step forward for the dog. The dog sees itself as a real member of the family and not as a wolf.

Dry Dog Food

Compared to dry food prepared with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) industrial dried food is produced by extrusion, pressing or baking. This results in gluten-free dry dog food and grain-free dry dog food, as well as dry puppy and young dog food and dry senior food.

Extruded dry food (dog food)

Extruded dry food is a result of a pasty mass of dry food ingredients which is strongly heated, applying high temperature under pressure, pressed through nozzles and dried. Meat is not the main ingredient in about half of all extruded dry dog food on the market. The extruders dried food ingredients can contain only about 25 percent of fresh meat. The dry food extruder is unable to process more fresh meat without the dry food pieces croquettes falling apart again. Therefore, meat meal is predominantly used for extruded dry food (dog food). Extruded dry food always swells, sometimes more and sometimes less. Swelling dog food increases the risk of a gastric torsion in larger dog breeds.

Cold pressed dry food (dog food)

Cold pressed dry dog food is produced in a similar way to pelletised press feed used in factory farming. Therefore, the dried food pellets for cattle and pigs, for example, look very similar to the cold pressed dried food pellets for dogs. However, dry food (dog food) is only pressed from flours such as maize meal, rice meal, rumen meal, bone meal and meat meal. Cold pressed dry food (dog food) combined with water, decomposes into flour again after about an hour. The term cold pressed dry food (dog food) also is not quite correct because animal-based ingredients, such as rumen meal, bone meal or meat meal, are also pressed. These components were produced by applying high temperature and high pressure long before cold pressing. Tests have shown that there is also cold pressed dry feed that swells up like extruded dry feed. Consequently, in this case, cold pressed dry dog food would also pose a risk of gastric torsion in larger dog breeds.

Baked dry food (dog food)

Baked dry food can be produced with a high percentage of fresh meat. However, the ingredient dough of baked dry food (dog food) is heated longer than the extruded dry food (dog food). Tests have shown that there is also baked dry feed that swells up like extruded dry feed. In this case, baked dog food would also pose a risk of gastric torsion in larger dog breeds.

Dry dog food prepared with FSG instead of dry dog food

Dry dog nutrition is produced by cooking fresh meat in its own meat juice at a low temperature for a long time, while the meat juice is constantly reduced. Although the result is called dry food, the texture is not like the texture of common dry dog food. The remaining moisture of the meat juice makes our dry food chewy-soft. Reducing the meat juice enhances the meat taste and smell in a natural war. Therefore, dog food prepared with FSG (Fleischsaftgarung) comes without flavour enhancers, without attractants and without odour ants. The low temperature during cooking also preserves the nutrients of meat and meat juice.

The dog's digestive system is made to digest meat, which is why dry food prepared with FSG has an excellent conversion into energy for the body to use. The naturally high digestibility is also shown by the fact that the dry food does not swell in the stomach like extruded dry dog food, some cold pressed dry dog food and some baked dry dog food do. Overall, dry food prepared with FSG is suitable for all dog breeds and all age groups (puppies, young dogs, adult dogs and senior dogs).
